Indian cricket fans are the most enthusiastic fan in the world. They demand high expectations from their players. If players fail to fulfill their expectations then they are the world’s worst critics. The same thing has been followed by Pujara’s career in recent times as the player has been dominated by both opposite teams and fans. It’s been three years since Pujara hit a century from his bat and the last century he struck was in January 2019 against Australia. But Sunil Gavaskar Says Cheteshwar Pujara is a blessing for us, Cheteshwar Pujara reminds me of Hashim Amla.
Since then player has hit half-century but failed to convert them into hundred. Although Pujara has played some match-winning knocks against Australia in the Border Gavaskar trophy and against England also. After WTC 2021, Pujara’s performance continuously declines, and in the WTC final also he failed to score in both innings.
In ongoing South Africa test series only hit one-half century which to come under pressure situation. Senior players like Pujara and Rahane are the most debatable topic in recent cricket as some wanted to drop both of them and some wanted to continue with them as they are senior and experienced players. Now Sunil Gavaskar, the little master is come forward to end up questions or criticism raised against Pujara.
Sunil Gavaskar Says He is a blessing for us, Cheteshwar Pujara reminds me of Hashim Amla
Gavaskar is a renowned Indian player, Gavaskar domination in tests is proof that he is the greatest of all time. Gavaskar hit 25 centuries in his Test career which is a milestone at that time. Now he came forward to end up questions raised against Pujara as former player compare Pujara with South Africa’s legendary batsman Hashim Amla.
Gavaskar also stated that having Pujara in a dressing room is a blessing to the Indian test squad. Yes, Pujara is a blessing and we should support Pujara in his dark phase. Because when India is in the dark Phase of test cricket then Pujara is the savior of the Indian batting line-up. Gavaskar said,
When I look at him, he reminds me of Hashim. Watching Hashim bat, you know there’s a sense of calm that everything is under control. The ball could be doing things but there was that sense because even on pitches where the ball was turning, the way Hashim was batting in India, it was almost as if, ‘look, nothing’s happening’, and that’s the same thing with Cheteshwar Pujara,” said Gavaskar on SuperSport. He further added, . “It is a great, great blessing to have players of this temperament in your dressing room. (It may not be) necessarily just on the field but it’s a huge plus and I think having somebody with Cheteshwar Puajra’s temperament in the changing room must be absolutely terrific,”.
“In international cricket, there are several moments of tension where people would want to do this or that or the other. When you have somebody who’s going to think about it calmly and give you a measured opinion it makes a big difference,”
Cheteshwar Pujara career analysis
Cheteshwar Pujara is a member of the Indian test cricket team and till now represents India in 93 test matches. He’s a top-order batsman in test matches. After VVS Laxman we can say that he is a successor of him. Cheteshwar Pujara only played 5 ODI matches in which he scored 51 runs. Further, he won’t get a chance in ODI matches as exports consider him as a proper test player.
In IPL also Pujara doesn’t have a long existence as a player. He only played 30 matches in which he scored 390 runs with a strike rate of 99. The low strike rate is also a reason that Pujara is considered to be a test format player.
Pujara makes his seat firm in the test squad as a player he dominates in every corner of the world with a bat. He is now working as a wall for the Indian cricket team. In 93 test matches, he scored 6661 runs with an average of 44.10 which includes 18 centuries. Likewise, Gavaskar said having Pujara in the Test squad is a blessing for an Indian cricket team.
