‘Captain Sacked?’ Twitter Reacts On Non-Participation Of Rohit Sharma In The Warm-up Match

KL Rahul-led Indian team squared off against hosts Western Australia in the second warm-up match earlier today (October 9) at the renowned WACA cricket stadium located in Perth. It was an unimpressive outing from the Men In Blue as the team faced an embarrassing defeat against a prominent domestic Austrian team. 

Western Australia displayed remarkable performance both with the bat and ball, which enabled them to register a comprehensive 36-run victory on their home ground. The Indian side will be extremely disappointed with their performance today and will be desperate to get back on the field on Monday, where the team will be taking on Australia in a formal World Cup practice match. 

Ravi Ashwin and Harshal Patel’s brilliant performance was a big positive for the team heading into the marquee ICC event. The senior bowlers managed to scalp a couple of wickets each. While skipper KL Rahul was the only one who had a significant contribution with the bat. He scored 74 off 55 deliveries in the crucial run chase.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s absence in the recently-concluded warm-up encounter suddenly became a hot topic on social media. Sharma did not feature in the game despite being named in the team sheet. Mumbaikar’s deputy, namely KL Rahul took over as the skipper of the team in his absence. 

The netizens are now coming up with different theories, speculating the possible reason behind Rohit Sharma’s non-participation. Some sources from the venue reported that he was rested by the management and was seen practicing in the open nets after the conclusion of the match at the same venue (Perth). 

Rohit Sharma played the first warm-up match against the same opposition, which took place a couple of days back (October 10) but he did not manage to contribute much with the bat, getting dismissed on a score of 3 by prominent Australian bowler Jason Behrendorff.
