Ashish Nehra picks Indian squad:
Meanwhile, Indian veteran Ashish Nehra has picked a 15-member India squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. The squad picked by the former left-hand Indian quick has multiple similarities compared to the Asia Cup line-up, barring a couple of forced changes in the bowling attack.
Nehra’s choice of 15 players was bank-on, however the exclusion of pacer Mohammed Shami from the squad surprised the fans. The 43-year-old was coach of a brand-new IPL franchise namely Gujarat Titans in the last season of IP(2022). He worked with Mohammed Shami extensively in the same stint with the Gujarat-based franchise.
Here’s what Ashish Nehra said:
“We still have a long way to go as far as the T20 World Cup is concerned, so I think we will see a lot from KL Rahul in the next six games. SKY should be in the eleven because you then have an alternative to Rishabh Pant. You can swap the two on No. 4 or 5,”
“One name, however, comes to my mind and that is Mohammed Shami. Being a Test specialist, he hasn’t attracted that much focus from the selectors. And I am not saying this because I saw him up close in Gujarat Titans,”
Here’s the squad picked by Ashish Nehra:
Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Dinesh Karthik, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Hooda
