Rohit Sharma and co. faced Sri Lanka in an all-important encounter in the Asia Cup Super 4 stage yesterday. It was a must-win match for India as losing it would have virtually eliminated the team. On the other hand, After a win against Afghanistan in their last game, Sri Lanka was eying on another victory in order to become the first team to qualify for the Finals.
The result did not pan out the way India wanted as Sri Lanka chased down the total of 174 in the last over thriller. It was a clinical effort by the Sri Lankan unit both with the bat and ball. Star-stubbed India was visibly crushed as their bowling attack failed to defend a par total for a second consecutive time in the ongoing tournament.
India still has an outside chance of making it to the Finals of the marquee Asian Tournament. However, The possibility is bleak. The team is now dependent on Pakistan’s match results. Indian team would now desperately hope that the Babar Azam-led team loses both of their remaining matches, at the same time India has to win their last game of the Super 4 phase against Afghanistan by a huge margin.
