Ajit Agarkar, the former Indian pacer, was the front-runner to become India’s chief selector. Unfortunately, the 44-year-old had to miss out as Chetan Sharma was elected as India’s chief selector. Chetan Sharma is currently leading the 5-member selection committee.
Now, A senior player from the Indian team is keen to have Ajit Agarkar in the Indian setup, but this time as a bowling coach. The player wants the 44-year-old to remain India’s bowling coach until the ODI World Cup 2023.
The source said: “The senior player, who plays a vital role in decision-making in Indian cricket now, wants an experienced hand like Agarkar guiding the bowlers till the 2023 ODI World Cup. Paras Mhambrey is a good bowling coach and can look after budding bowlers at India A, India Under-19, and at pacers the National Cricket Academy.”
Paras Mhambrey, the former seamer, is India’s bowling coach at the moment. Mhambrey was elected as the bowling coach after the exit of Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, and co.
The 49-year-old played two Tests and three ODIs for India in international cricket. He has contributed extensively with the current Indian head coach Rahul Dravid in junior cricket and at the National Cricket Academy as well.
Paras Mhambrey is expected to contribute to the Junior cricket and National Cricket Academy if Ajit Agarkar is picked as India’s bowling coach. Agarkar is working as a commentator for the Star network and Sony network. The 44-year-old is set to feature as Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. This will be Agarkar’s first stint in a coaching setup.
Agarkar has played enough International and domestic cricket. The 44-year-old has been a stalwart of the Indian and Mumbai Cricket. He played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and 4 T20Is in International cricket.
The 44-year-old has close to 350 wickets to his name in International Cricket and is known for his all-rounder ability. Agarkar has also scored an International century at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
