Just a day after the three-match series loss against South Africa, Virat Kohli announced that he will be stepping down as a test Captain with an immediate effect through a tweet and post on social media platforms.
With Virat Kohli leaving the captaincy, Team India needs a new captain to lead the side in red-ball cricket. Many experts, former players have put their opinions out on social media. Out of many opinions, former Indian player Yuvraj Singh backs Rishabh Pant for the leadership role.
Virat Kohli led the test team for 7 years, in 68 Tests out of which India won as many as 40 tests. He has a win percentage of 58.82% which is the highest among Indian captains. Overall he is the third most successful captain in the history of Test cricket after Australia’s Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting.
Sunil Gavaskar feels Rishabh Pant can be the next Captain; Yuvraj Singh also agreed to the same
Both Sunil Gavaskar nor Yuvraj Singh haven’t gone with Rohit Sharma nor with KL Rahul as the next test Captain. Both of them have come up with an ‘out of the box pick for India’s new Test captain.
On the Sports Today channel, former Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stated that Rishabh Pant can be the next Captain as he feels the added responsibility on Pant will make him an even better player.
After his opinion, Former Indian southpaw Yuvraj Singh reacted to it and agreed with Sunil Gavaskar. Yuvraj also thinks that Pant can read the game well behind the stumps and could be the next Captain.

Rishabh Pant has the experience of leading a team as he has led the Delhi Capitals side last season in the Indian Premier League where they finished third. He has even captained the Delhi side in domestic cricket as well.
Currently, the team is preparing for the three-match ODI series which will begin from 19th January with the first two ODI to be played in Boland Park, Paarl, and the last one in Capetown. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will lead the side and Jasprit Bumrah will be his deputy.
