The veteran South Africa batter AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of Cricket in 2021 following his international retirement in 2018. The 39-year-old made his debut as a professional commentator during the recently concluded season of SA20. De Villiers appeared pretty impressive right away in his commentary debut during the newly-launched South Africa-based T20 competition.
The upcoming Indian Premier League season will be AB de Villiers’ approaching assignment, as he will be seen in a brand new role. De Villiers will remain with a prominent IPL franchise, namely, Royal Challengers Bangalore, in the role of a mentor during IPL 2023. Having featured in the Bangalore-based side for more than a decade, he had a big reputation in the highly-competitive league as a middle-order batter.
Not one of the best, the best: AB de Villiers on Rashid Khan
Meanwhile, AB de Villiers named Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan as his greatest T20 player of all time. De Villiers appeared extremely impressed with Khan’s match-winning ability both with the bat and ball. He further highlighted the all-rounder’s competitive nature on the field. The fans were cryptic about the South African’s extravagant statement as they expected him to name one of his RCB peers.
“My greatest T20 player of all time is none other than Rashid Khan. He delivers with bat and ball. Match winner in both departments, he is a livewire in the field and has got the heart of a lion,” said AB de Villiers
“He always wants to win, he is very competitive, and he is right there with one of the best T20 players. Not one of the best, the best,” de Villiers further added in an interaction with broadcasters SuperSport
The renowned Rashid Khan has truly proved his mettle over the world in a very short period. The 24-year-old has already marked a whopping 382 appearances in professional T20 Cricket. The leg-spinner has as many as 514 dismissals and 8798 runs to his name in the exact T20 fixtures. He has further been part of multiple title wins and was part of defending champions Gujarat Titans’ lineup as well.
