IND vs WI: The opening encounter of the two-match Test series between India and West Indies kicked off yesterday (July 12) at Windsor Park, Dominica. Rohit Sharma-led Indian team headed into the enthralling fixture following a week-long training camp in the Caribbean. Kraigg Brathwaite, the skipper of the Windies, called it right at the toss in Dominica and elected to bat in ideal conditions.
The performance of West Indies with the bat upfront remained nothing short of a disaster. Owing to an unprofessional batting effort, the home side bundled out on the substandard total of 150 in the post-tea session of Day 1. Ravichandran Ashwin starred for visitors India with a remarkable five-wicket haul while Ravindra Jadeja scalped three wickets. On the other hand, it was pretty much a flop show for the Windies’ batting unit in Dominica.
India wants to find Rishabh Pant’s replacement-type-of player: Aakash Chopra
Meanwhile, former India batter Aakash Chopra has passed a verdict on Ishan Kishan’s test debut. Ishan Kishan made his red-ball debut yesterday in the India-Windies series opener at Dominica. Chopra had a few supporting words for Srikar Bharat – whom Kishan replaced in the ongoing Test. Chopra suggested that India might be searching for a player who could play an aggressive role with the bat, similar to the injured Rishabh Pant.
“Srikar Bharat kept well in the WTC final as well. If you turn your back on him and move towards Ishan Kishan, when will Bharat’s number come again? I don’t know. If Ishan is making his debut, it means India has gone in a different direction and I am slightly surprised.” said Chopra
“It reflects the Indian team’s thinking slightly. They want to find a replacement type of player for Rishabh Pant, who can bat like him in that position. So here comes Ishan Kishan,” the former India opener further added on his YouTube
Ishan Kishan, the man on debut, appeared clinical with the gloves on the opening day of the Dominica test. The gloveman from Ranchi contributed with two crucial catches behind the wickets. Moreover, The Southpaw will certainly be desperate to make an impact with the bat straightway.
