IPL 2023: The league stage in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League is nearing its conclusion and the competition has produced high-drama thrillers – day in, day out. The all-important playoffs leg in IPL 2023 will commence after less than a week and as many as eight teams are still in contention to qualify for the knockouts. Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans are the only team to formally make it into the playoffs so far in IPL 2023.
The likes of Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prabhsimran Singh, and Suyash Sharma currently lead the emerging players’ chart of the ongoing IPL season. The mentioned names have grabbed the given opportunities with both their hands, announcing their arrival on the big stage. Moreover, at least a couple of names from the exact elite list might be seen featuring in the second-string Indian lineup for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies.
No one is doing better than Rinku Singh: Aakash Chopra
Meanwhile, former India opening batter Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Rinku Singh during one of his recent YouTube videos. The cricketer-turned-expert believes that Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh has been the best finisher in the competition. Aakash Chopra further claimed that the young batter is being underappreciated as he is not recognized for his consistency despite scoring over 400 runs this season.
“Rinku Singh has been the best finisher in this IPL season. No one is doing it better than him. We are not acknowledging, or appreciating him enough. He had hit five sixes but it’s not about just those five sixes. He has scored more than 400 runs and the number at which the guy bats, 400 runs are not scored at all.” said Aakash Chopra
“Virat Kohli has 438 runs and Shubman Gill has 475 runs, and he (Rinku) has scored close to 410 runs. We forget him because we acknowledge the top-order batters so much. He has been absolutely stellar.” the former India opener further added on his YouTube
Rinku Singh, who was not getting regular opportunities in the last few seasons, has truly been the find of the tournament in the 2023 edition of the IPL. Singh smashed a record-breaking 5 sixes off the last over in the clash against Gujarat Titans, helping his team chase down a whopping 31 runs in the final over earlier this season. The quickfire knock from the KKR batter will certainly end up as the season’s finest individual performance.
