The 18-member Indian squad is looking all set and prepared for the upcoming rescheduled fifth test against England in their own backyard. The much-anticipated encounter will mark India’s first big assignment after the conclusion of the recently concluded Indian Premier League.
Meanwhile, The visitors were stuck with a worrying development during the proceedings of the tour game as their skipper Rohit Sharma tested positive for covid. He did not feature in the remainder of the game after returning positive in an RT-PCR test conducted by the BCCI.
The marquee opener will remain in isolation in one of the hotel rooms before he returns negative for the novel virus. However, It is understood from a credible media report that the leadership group is hopeful for the Mumbaikar to recover before the marquee test.
Aakash Chopra worried about Shubman Gill’s position:
Aakash Chopra, The former Indian cricketer and now a famous commentator has raised several questions about the batting position of Shubman Gill. He believes that the right-hand batter might face some trouble while playing the moving balls against the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and co.
He sees the right-hand batter doing well in the middle order (No. 3 or 4). Chopra further added that the challenger will be even bigger as it will be a one-off test and a couple of early failures will mean the end of the road, unlike a complete series, where batters get an opportunity to make a comeback.
Here’s what Aakash Chopra said:
“Shubman Gill is now surely going to be one of the openers for the rescheduled Test. But I am not a hundred percent certain that he’s the best choice for the position. I believe that his best will come at No.3 or No.4.”
“We have seen that he isn’t too comfortable when the ball starts to swing. He’s going to play just a single Test in England now. When you’re playing a series of five Tests, you have a chance of bouncing back even if you fail early on.”
