After a poor outing in the Asia Cup 2022, Team India made a strong comeback in the recently-concluded limited-overs home leg. Rohit Sharma-led India beat full-fledged teams of Australia and South Africa in the three-match T20I series respectively in a dominant fashion.
The Indian players boarded the flight to Australia yesterday (Friday) ahead of the highly-anticipated T20I World Cup 2022. The dominant team is entering the tournament with plenty of hopes and will be one of the hot favorites to clinch the title this time around.
Rashid Latif slams Indian think tank:
Meanwhile, former Pakistan player Rashid Latif has commented on Indian team management’s over-experimentation heading into the all-important ICC event. Latif has slammed the Indian leadership group for trying out too many players, instead of giving a long rope to certain players ahead of the T20 World Cup.
The Pakistan veteran also commented on team India’s poor run in multi-nation events in the last full decade, citing the example of the Asia Cup 2022 (UAE). Latif believes that not winning any big event is a big worry, comparing the star-studded team with Australia, England, and Pakistan.
Here’s what Rashid Latif said:
“They keep their main players everywhere and they keep changing their players frequently. 56-57 players khila diye unhone poore saal me, event koi bhi nahi bada jeeta. Ye ek issue hai. Australia and England plan a lot better. Then comes Pakistan.”
The Asia Cup performances of India & Pakistan:
The Indian team had a horrible outing in the recently-concluded edition of the Asia Cup, which took place in UAE. The team was eliminated in the Super 4 stage of the tournament itself, with Sri Lanka and Pakistan making it into the Finals of the marquee Asian tournament.
On the other hand, The Babar Azam-led Pakistan had a successful run. The Men In Green managed to achieve victories in most of their league games, except two. The team eventually faced an embarrassing defeat in the Grand-finale against Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka.
